I’m Here to Entertain: Hansika Motwani

If you thought Tamannaah was the youngest among the current crop of heroines in Kollywood, you are off the mark.

The new girl in Dhanush’s Maapillai remake, Hansika Motwani, another Sindhi girl from Mumbai, is celebrating her 18th birthday tomorrow. Hansika has come a long way from being a child artiste in films like Koi Mil Gaya, Hawa and Jago. The actress, who was often identified as the kid in the popular television serial Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi before she made her debut in Telugu as Allu Arjun’s heroine in the smash hit Desamudru, later acted in Aap Ka Surroor with Himesh Reshammiya in Hindi.

She has also appeared along with Shah Rukh Khan in a very popular car advertising campaign, which actually got her offers down south. Speaking exclusively to CT, Hansika said, “I’m delighted to do a film with Dhanush. Recently, I saw two of his films on DVD and thoroughly enjoyed them, though I did not understand the language.” She is likely to start the shoot of the film sometime in October, after she signs her contract and till then, is not allowed to speak about it. However, we understand that Hansika will be playing the role played by Amala in the original version.

Hansika says that she is no stranger to the south, after working in four Telugu films and one Kannada film. The actress, who, in her very first Telugu filmplayed a “sexy sanyasin” who falls for the action hero, understands that glamour sells the best in south Indian movies. She fails to understand what the fuss is about when it comes to wearing what she calls “stylish western outfits” in movies. The actress, who recently went on a crash diet to shed her baby fat, is looking like a million bucks with her svelte figure.

All actresses want to look great on screen. If you have a figure to flaunt and the right attitude, then there is nothing wrong with wearing revealing clothes,” says the glam actress. She goes on to add, “I make it a point to study the character I do, and if the story demands that I wear a particular outfit, I’m game. After all, I’m here to entertain.” She feels that Tamil cinema will be a learning experience for her and wants to balance her career both in Bollywood where she is on the verge of signing a big movie with an upcoming young star and in Kollywood, where she is open to more films if the role is acceptable to her.

At the moment though, Hansika is making plans for her 18th birthday, which she intends to spend with friends and family. “I’m very happy that I’m turning 18. Now, I can get a licence to drive my car and sign my own contracts and cheque books,” says the actress. However, there is tension in the air as the young star’s 12th standard results are going to be out a day after her birthday. A lover of all things south, the actress says that the first thing she is going to do when she comes to Chennai is to visit a popular vegetarian hotel and order a dosa with sambar, her all time favourite dish!
